An Apostille is a certificate that authenticates the signature of a public official on a document for use in another country. An Apostille certifies:
The Apostille does not validate the contents of the document.
Some of the documents that can be Apostilled are Personal Documents, Corporate Documents, State and Federal Documents, and documents issued by County, Court, State, and Notary Public.
Countries that are part of the Hague Convention of 5 October 1961 Abolishing the Requirement of Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents get an Apostille. Countries that are not part of the Hague Convention will require additional authentication by the corresponding Embassy of the country the document will be used in.
Documents must be Apostilled in the State they were issued in. If a document is issued in California it must be Apostille in California. Federal Documents like FBI report and Naturalization Certificate must be Apostille through US Department of State in DC.
